lake george battleground

In 1755, Fort William Henry was destroyed by the French, after a successful siege led by      General Marquis de Montcalm.  The Battle of Lake George, which was on the front lines of the French and Indian War has been immortalized in the story, "Last of the Mohicans". After the French burned the fort down, it became necessary, to rebuild a new one, not long after.  The fort that stands there today is a remake, not the original one.  A couple of years later, an attempt was made by the British to build a new fort out of stone, instead of wood.

Many people do not know that one of the bastions still stands today, just a few hundred yards from Fort W.H. to the south east, located on a slightly elevated patch of land, overlooking the world famous mini golf places, Around the World and Around the U.S. It is also located in a NY state park, which offers up some great shade, grills and picnic tables for a summer trip. The following pictures are mostly of this last remaining wall, as the fort was never completed. 250 plus years later, the bastion remains trapped in history!!!

Looking from the back, inside the fort.

nothing to do with the fort, :)
